The second ætt is ruled over by Heimdall and Mordgud, and the third and final ætt is ruled over by Tîwaz and Zisa. The first ætt is ruled over by Frey and Freyja, the deities of fertility. The Elder Futhark consists of 24 runes divided into three groups of eight, known as an ætt (singular of ættir), which are said to be ruled over by both a god and goddess. It’s up to you to interpret this blank stone or to leave it up to the gods. Sets of casting runes also include one blank stone, called Wyrd, which represents that which cannot be known or controlled in other words FATE. Historically, Vikings used what is known as the Elder Futhark runes, one of the oldest runic alphabets known, which consist of 24 symbols.
